LATEST ENHANCEMENT FOR SARAWAK PRIVATE AND PUBLIC EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS AND NEW REQUIREMENT FROM THE SARAWAK IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENT

1. PURPOSE

1.1 The purpose of this bulletin is to notify Education Institutions in Sarawak regarding the latest system enhancement done to the EMGS STAR System relating to the option for uploading the IM38 Form and BK Form once an application is created.

1.2  We would also like to provide updates to all Education Institutions in Sarawak regarding the latest requirement imposed by the Sarawak Immigration Department in relation to the passport validity for all New Student pass applications.

2. IMPLEMENTATION

2.1  Upload of the IM38 and BK Form in the STAR System

2.1.1  Effective from 9th March 2023, EMGS has revised the process and provided the option for Education Institutions to upload the IM38 and BK Form once the application is created in the STAR System. Education Institutions were previously only allowed to upload these documents once the application has been vetted through by EMGS.

2.1.2  The STAR System is now automated to check if the BK and IM38 Form is uploaded when a New application has been created. The system will auto create an application issue if these documents were not uploaded when the application was created.

2.1 .3 Education Institutions will then have the option to upload these documents in the STAR System, please refer to the bulletin sent by EMGS on 25th January 2023 regarding the System Enhancement for Uploading the Additional Documents Required By EMGS Through STAR System.

2.1.4  Kindly note that the system will not create the application issues requesting for these documents if the documents were uploaded when the application was created.

2.2  Passport Validity for all New Applications

2.2.1  The Sarawak Immigration Department is now requesting for the passport validity to be 18 months for all New Student pass applications.

2.2.2  Based on this new requirement from the Sarawak Immigration Department, EMGS will notify Education Institutions via the EMGS STAR System if the passport validity for an application submitted is less than 18 months. Education Institutions will be required to inform their impacted students to renew their passports and submit a copy of all pages to EMGS.
