RENEWAL OF A STUDENT PASS BY THE MALAYSIAN IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENT UPON EXPIRY

1. PURPOSE

1.1 EMGS had previously notified (Updates – Clarification for International Students and Institutions on application processing during and post the Movement Control Order period dated 18th July 2020) all education institutions that the Malaysian Immigration Department is allowing international students to continue renewing theirstudent pass if it expired after 1st February 2020. This facility was implemented as these students were unable to travel to Malaysia because of global border closures due to the Covid19 pandemic worldwide.

 

1.2 The Malaysian Immigration Department has now issued a circular (Ref: IM.101/HQG/1130/1/1-2JLD.16 (62)) dated 23rd February 2023 rescinding this facility as there is no longer any travel restrictions imposed due to the Covid 19 pandemic

 

 

2. IMPLEMENTATION

 

2.1  Beginning 1st April 2023, all international students with an expired student pass will not be allowed to enter Malaysia using a social visit pass and renew theirstudent pass. Existing international students in Malaysia will also not be allowed to renew their student pass once it has expired.

 

2.2  These students will be required to apply a new application and obtain a new eVisa Approval Letter (eVAL)

 

2.3  Kindly note that the Malaysian Immigration Department may allow certain international students to renew their student pass if the current pass expiry has not lapsed for more than 3 months. The decision is entirely under the discretion of the Malaysian Immigration Department

 

2.4  EMGS would remind Education Institutions that the Malaysian Immigration Department allows International Students to renew their student pass 3 months prior to the expiry

Tuan Haji Ismail Bin Mohamed

Tuan Haji Ismail Mohamed sits on the Board of Director for Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS). He obtains his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

Prior to sitting on the EMGS Board, he was also appointed to be the Board of Director to KEJORA from 2013 to 2018, and several companies such as Permodalan Darul Takzim Sdn Bhd, Perbadanan Usahawan Johor Sdn Bhd, PIJ Holding and Ranhil SAJ Sdn Bhd. Tuan Haji Ismail Mohamed also co-founded Pertama.

He started his career by setting up a company and being the founder of JYBB Enterprise. His career came to prominence when he became the co-founder and the Chief Executive Officer of Pertama Polyerethane Technology (M) Sdn Bhd and subsequently became the Special Officer to the Minister of Education in 2013.

Ismail Mohamed is acknowledged for his expertise in Agriculture and Agro-based industry, landing him being appointed as the Chairman of the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Committee of the Johor State, the Chairman of Agro KEJORA and the Chairman of the Johor State Agriculture, Agro-based industry, Entrepreneurial Development and Cooperatives Committee.
