UPDATE ON QUARANTINE PERIOD FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ARRIVING TO MALAYSIA

1.     PURPOSE:

 

1.1.   EMGS would like to provide further updates on the bulletin issued on 22nd December 2020 regarding the revised quarantine period for travellers arriving in Malaysia from overseas.

 

1.2.   Due to the current global situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Malaysian Government has reviewed this decision and all travellers including International Students arriving from certain countries will be required to undergo 14 days of quarantine upon their arrival in Malaysia.

 

2.     IMPLEMENTATION:

 

2.1.   Beginning 2nd May 2021, all travellers arriving from the following countries are required to undergo 14 days quarantine upon their arrival in Malaysia.

2.2.   Travellers arriving from the countries mentioned above are required to:

2.2.1. Download, register and activate the MySejahtera application in their mobile phone before arriving in Malaysia. They are required to use the MySejahtera application to scan the QR code upon arrival at the international entry point.

2.2.2. Undergo a screening for fever and other symptoms at the international entry point.

2.2.3. Undergo quarantine for 14 days at a quarantine stations designated by the Malaysian Government.

2.2.4. Monitor their own health status using the MySejahtera application during the 14 days of quarantine period. If symptoms occur, these individuals must inform the medical team on duty for further examination and treatment.

2.2.5. Remain in a quarantine station and do not leave the room.

2.2.6. Comply with SOPs, laws and regulations related to the management of COVID-19 which has been prescribed by the Government Malaysia at all times.

2.2.7. Travelers will be released from quarantine on the 14th day if the COVID-19 screening test is negative

 

2.3.   The quarantine cost remains the same as previously announced. International Students are required to pay RM150/ per night and a fixed fee of RM 2,600 (Quarantine Station Operations). Kindly note that this amount does not include the cost for COVID-19 detection tests.

 

2.4.   All fees imposed by the Government of Malaysia including COVID-19 detection test, quarantine cost, and hospital admittance fee (if required) must be borne by International Students.

 

2.5.   Kindly note that travellers arriving from India and United Kingdom are still restricted from entering Malaysia.

Sarah Azreen Abdul Samat

Sarah has over 22 years of experience in corporate finance transactions involving equity issuance, mergers and acquisitions, fundraising, corporate restructuring, and corporate valuation, amongst others. She began her career in investment banking with Malaysian International Merchant Bankers Berhad in 2001 after obtaining her professional qualifications from PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Later in her career, she joined other investment banking institutions in Malaysia such as AmInvestment Bank Berhad, Maybank Investment Bank Berhad and RHB Investment Bank Berhad.

Presently, Sarah sits as Non-Independent Non-Executive Director of Reneuco Berhad and Independent Director of Pharmaniaga Berhad. She is currently the Executive Director of 3p Capital Advisers Sdn. Bhd., a company licensed with the Securities Commission Malaysia to provide advisory services to the capital market players.

Tuan Haji Ismail Bin Mohamed

Tuan Haji Ismail Mohamed sits on the Board of Director for Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS). He obtains his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

Prior to sitting on the EMGS Board, he was also appointed to be the Board of Director to KEJORA from 2013 to 2018, and several companies such as Permodalan Darul Takzim Sdn Bhd, Perbadanan Usahawan Johor Sdn Bhd, PIJ Holding and Ranhil SAJ Sdn Bhd. Tuan Haji Ismail Mohamed also co-founded Pertama.

He started his career by setting up a company and being the founder of JYBB Enterprise. His career came to prominence when he became the co-founder and the Chief Executive Officer of Pertama Polyerethane Technology (M) Sdn Bhd and subsequently became the Special Officer to the Minister of Education in 2013.

Ismail Mohamed is acknowledged for his expertise in Agriculture and Agro-based industry, landing him being appointed as the Chairman of the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Committee of the Johor State, the Chairman of Agro KEJORA and the Chairman of the Johor State Agriculture, Agro-based industry, Entrepreneurial Development and Cooperatives Committee.
