UPDATE REGARDING THE QUARANTINE PERIOD FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ARRIVING TO MALAYSIA

1.     PURPOSE:

 

1.1  Based on information stated in previous bulletins issued by EMGS, all existing international students that are allowed entry to Malaysia must undergo the COVID-19 detection test and fourteen (14) days quarantine at designated quarantine stations by the Malaysian Government. All expenses for the student’s entry into Malaysia will be borne by the student.

 

1.2  In accordance to the latest directive issued on 17th December 2020 (Ref: KKM.600-29/4/146 Jld.8 (91)), the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) has now reviewed the health screening procedures, COVID-19 detection test and quarantine period for travellers arriving in Malaysia from overseas.

 

 

2.      IMPLEMENTATION:

 

2.1  Effective from 14th December 2020, all existing International Students arriving in Malaysia must meet the following conditions:-

 

2.1.1       All exisiting International Students must undergo an RT-PCR COVID-19 three (3) days prior to their departure to Malaysia.

 

2.1.2       The Ministry of Health has also decided to shorten the quarantine period from fourteen (14) days to seven (7) days for incoming travellers that furnish their RT-PCR COVID-19 test results at the international arrival gates. International travelers that are not able to provide RT-PCR COVID-19 test results will be subjected to a quarantine period of ten (10) days.

 

2.1.3       The RT-PCR COVID-19 test results must be in English so that it can be inspected by the respective authorities in Malaysia upon arrival.

 

2.1.4       The Ministry of Health previously issued a directive on 30th October 2020, which states that all International Students who wish to enter Malaysia are required to make an online payment for COVID-19 detection test charges and quarantine cost before leaving for Malaysia. This directive is still applicable however cash payment at the international arrival gates will still be allowed until further notice.

 

2.1.5       If the RT-PCR COVID-19 test results is dated more than three (3) days prior to the departure date, the results will not be accepted and the International Student must undergo the RT-PCR COVID-19 test at the international arrival gate once again. The International Students will then be subjected to a quarantine period of ten (10) days.

 

2.2  Kindly note that all fees imposed by the Government of Malaysia including COVID-19 detection test, quarantine cost, and hospital admittance fee (if required) must be borne by International Students.

 

2.3  The quarantine cost remains the same as previously announced. International Students are required to pay RM150/ per night and a fixed fee of RM 2,600 (Quarantine Station Operations). Kindly note that this amount does not include the cost for COVID-19 detection tests.

Sarah Azreen Abdul Samat

Sarah has over 22 years of experience in corporate finance transactions involving equity issuance, mergers and acquisitions, fundraising, corporate restructuring, and corporate valuation, amongst others. She began her career in investment banking with Malaysian International Merchant Bankers Berhad in 2001 after obtaining her professional qualifications from PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Later in her career, she joined other investment banking institutions in Malaysia such as AmInvestment Bank Berhad, Maybank Investment Bank Berhad and RHB Investment Bank Berhad.

Presently, Sarah sits as Non-Independent Non-Executive Director of Reneuco Berhad and Independent Director of Pharmaniaga Berhad. She is currently the Executive Director of 3p Capital Advisers Sdn. Bhd., a company licensed with the Securities Commission Malaysia to provide advisory services to the capital market players.

Tuan Haji Ismail Bin Mohamed

Tuan Haji Ismail Mohamed sits on the Board of Director for Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS). He obtains his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

Prior to sitting on the EMGS Board, he was also appointed to be the Board of Director to KEJORA from 2013 to 2018, and several companies such as Permodalan Darul Takzim Sdn Bhd, Perbadanan Usahawan Johor Sdn Bhd, PIJ Holding and Ranhil SAJ Sdn Bhd. Tuan Haji Ismail Mohamed also co-founded Pertama.

He started his career by setting up a company and being the founder of JYBB Enterprise. His career came to prominence when he became the co-founder and the Chief Executive Officer of Pertama Polyerethane Technology (M) Sdn Bhd and subsequently became the Special Officer to the Minister of Education in 2013.

Ismail Mohamed is acknowledged for his expertise in Agriculture and Agro-based industry, landing him being appointed as the Chairman of the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Committee of the Johor State, the Chairman of Agro KEJORA and the Chairman of the Johor State Agriculture, Agro-based industry, Entrepreneurial Development and Cooperatives Committee.
