EMGS TO OPERATE A NEW ONE-STOP CENTRE FOR A SEAMLESS OPERATION OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENT PASS APPLICATION IN SARAWAK

KUALA LUMPUR, 29th July 2022 – Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) will facilitate the process for International Student Pass Application for all Public and Private Higher Education Institutions in Sarawak, following the directive issued by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) starting 1st August 2022.

Incorporated on 13th April 2012, EMGS is a Company Limited by Guarantee (“CLBG”) under the purview of the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia. It was established to champion and lead the development and promotion of Malaysia as the preferred education destination for all international students around the world. EMGS also acts as the principal body that manages the movement of international students in Malaysia, including the processing of student pass applications.

Following its recent celebration of 10 years of growth in the industry, EMGS received the mandate from the Ministry of Higher Education to ensure smooth process of the student pass application in Sarawak. The Education Malaysia Division, the Department of Higher Education, the Ministry of Higher Education together with the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Sarawak have also conducted a series of workshops between EMGS, the Immigration Department of Sarawak and Public/ Private Higher Educations Institutions in Sarawak to implement the policies that are being practised to ensure smooth operation of the Student Pass applications in Sarawak. The outcome of the meeting has ensured that the Student Pass issuance and tracking via EMGS is implemented with integrity as well as provide accurate and transparent information to all stakeholders in Sarawak.

Through EMGS, the Education institutions and International Students will benefit from faster processing time as the eVAL issuance is done within 14 days for complete applications. Both Education Institutions and International Students also have a transparent view of the application status during the various stages which can be tracked via “Track My Application” featured on the EMGS website. EMGS will continue to promote Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole, as an international education hub of choice around the world.

The EMGS One Stop Centre (OSC) will begin its operation at UTC Sarawak, starting from 1st August 2022.

Tuan Haji Ismail Bin Mohamed

Tuan Haji Ismail Mohamed sits on the Board of Director for Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS). He obtains his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

Prior to sitting on the EMGS Board, he was also appointed to be the Board of Director to KEJORA from 2013 to 2018, and several companies such as Permodalan Darul Takzim Sdn Bhd, Perbadanan Usahawan Johor Sdn Bhd, PIJ Holding and Ranhil SAJ Sdn Bhd. Tuan Haji Ismail Mohamed also co-founded Pertama.

He started his career by setting up a company and being the founder of JYBB Enterprise. His career came to prominence when he became the co-founder and the Chief Executive Officer of Pertama Polyerethane Technology (M) Sdn Bhd and subsequently became the Special Officer to the Minister of Education in 2013.

Ismail Mohamed is acknowledged for his expertise in Agriculture and Agro-based industry, landing him being appointed as the Chairman of the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Committee of the Johor State, the Chairman of Agro KEJORA and the Chairman of the Johor State Agriculture, Agro-based industry, Entrepreneurial Development and Cooperatives Committee.
