If you have yet to have a leave to remain in Malaysia, please note that the followings are required for international students.
Visa Approval Letter
Visa approval letter or (VAL) is a leave given by the authorities for you to come to Malaysia to study. Using VAL, citizens of some countries allowed to enter Malaysia and get visa-on-arrival (VOA) at the point of entry. Others are required to get a Single Entry Visa (SEV) either online or at the nearest Malaysian embassy or consular office. You can read more on eligibility and other requirements here.
Student Pass
Upon safely arriving in Malaysia, registering with your institution and completing a medical check-up, you will need to submit all documents and obtain a Student Pass. The Student Pass will be endorsed on your passport upon meeting all requirements.
i-Kad
With a valid student pass, you will be issued an i-Kad, a biometric residence permit (the size of a credit card) which bears your photo and other information to verify your identity. A valid i-Kad is the only substitute identification document for foreign nationals recognised by the Department of Immigration in Peninsular Malaysia and MUST BE KEPT WITH YOU ALL THE TIMES. By an i-Kad, your passport can now be kept away at a secure place. However, i-Kad is not a replacement document for international travel or travels between West Malaysia (Peninsular Malaysia) and East Malaysia (Sabah and Sarawak).
Dependent’s Pass
If you are bringing others with you, please check the eligibility requirements including the proof of the cost of living. Please note that visa for dependants is contingent upon the principal obtaining his or her own Student Pass, therefore careful planning is needed to ensure full compliance with Malaysian law.
