Bachelor of Environmental Technology (Hons)

Overview

QIU’s Bachelor of Environmental Technology (Hons) degree programme aims to fulfil the country’s need to manage, conserve and protect our environment for sustainable use. The concept of ‘green technology’ under the National Green Technology Policy has been formed and adopted by the government to focus on four pillars that drive national growth – energy, environment, economy and social. The awareness of environmental quality is increasing in Malaysia. Recent phenomena such as haze, poor drinking water quality, leachate contamination, improper solid waste and wastewater disposal are some of the issues that have attracted public concern. As our society becomes more environmentally-conscious, there is a need for individuals trained in Environmental Technology. Under the Environmental Quality Act 1974, prescribed activities require Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports to be presented and approved by the authorities. These need to be monitored by experts who ensure that they are implemented according to the stipulated regulations. The need for individuals trained in EIA is in line with the government’s desire to improve environmental quality and minimise the impact on society.
