 UPDATE ON ARRIVAL PROCESS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ENTERING MALAYSIA

1. PURPOSE

1.1 The purpose of this bulletin is to provide an update regarding the revised process for the arrival of International Students to Malaysia.

 

1.2 The Immigration Department of Malaysia has informed EMGS that beginning 15th January 2022, all Education Institution representatives will be required to liaise with the EMGS International Student Arrival Centre (EMGS ISAC) personnel to pick up their students at the arrival hall.

 

1.3 Kindly note that this update is only applicable to International Students who enter Malaysia via Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) or Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA 2).

 

2. IMPLEMENTATION

2.1 International Student Pre-Arrival Process

2.1.1 Both New and Existing International students who wish to travel into Malaysia must fill up a form available in the EMGS website. (visa.educationmalaysia.gov.my)

2.1.2 Details that are required in the form include: 

a) Student’s active contact number (international code) (number field)

b) Student’s active contact number for WhatsApp (international code) (number field)

c) Date of Flight Departure (dd:mm:yyyy)

d) Time of Departure (hh:mm)

e) Date of Flight Arrival (in Malaysia) (dd:mm:yyyy)

f) Time of Arrival (in Malaysia) (hh:mm)

g) Airlines Company & Flight Number

h) Copy of the flight tickets (must be uploaded)

 

2.2 International Student Post-Arrival Process

2.2.1 Upon arriving in Malaysia, International Students are required to proceed to the International Student Arrival Centre (ISAC) for verification purposes.

 

2.2.2 Once the verification process is complete, the international student will be accompanied by the ISAC personnel for Immigration clearance, and subsequently they will be ushered to the arrival hall.

 

2.2.3  EMGS personnel will then handover the student to the authorized representatives from the Education Institutions at the arrival hall. Kindly note that Education Institutions must register their representatives as the “Airport Liaison” in STARS to enable them to pick up their international students at the airport.

 

2.2.4  EMGS ISAC personnel on duty can be contacted on +6013 222 7745.

 

2.2.5 Education Institutions that are not required to be present at the airport to pick up their students must ensure that the student has made all the necessary travel arrangements (e.g. taxi, ride hailing, etc.) to travel to their designated locations.

 

2.2.6 Kindly also note that the entry requirements to enter Malaysia are still subjected to the prevailing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) set by the Government of Malaysia.

Sarah Azreen Abdul Samat

Sarah has over 22 years of experience in corporate finance transactions involving equity issuance, mergers and acquisitions, fundraising, corporate restructuring, and corporate valuation, amongst others. She began her career in investment banking with Malaysian International Merchant Bankers Berhad in 2001 after obtaining her professional qualifications from PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Later in her career, she joined other investment banking institutions in Malaysia such as AmInvestment Bank Berhad, Maybank Investment Bank Berhad and RHB Investment Bank Berhad.

Presently, Sarah sits as Non-Independent Non-Executive Director of Reneuco Berhad and Independent Director of Pharmaniaga Berhad. She is currently the Executive Director of 3p Capital Advisers Sdn. Bhd., a company licensed with the Securities Commission Malaysia to provide advisory services to the capital market players.

Tuan Haji Ismail Bin Mohamed

Tuan Haji Ismail Mohamed sits on the Board of Director for Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS). He obtains his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

Prior to sitting on the EMGS Board, he was also appointed to be the Board of Director to KEJORA from 2013 to 2018, and several companies such as Permodalan Darul Takzim Sdn Bhd, Perbadanan Usahawan Johor Sdn Bhd, PIJ Holding and Ranhil SAJ Sdn Bhd. Tuan Haji Ismail Mohamed also co-founded Pertama.

He started his career by setting up a company and being the founder of JYBB Enterprise. His career came to prominence when he became the co-founder and the Chief Executive Officer of Pertama Polyerethane Technology (M) Sdn Bhd and subsequently became the Special Officer to the Minister of Education in 2013.

Ismail Mohamed is acknowledged for his expertise in Agriculture and Agro-based industry, landing him being appointed as the Chairman of the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Committee of the Johor State, the Chairman of Agro KEJORA and the Chairman of the Johor State Agriculture, Agro-based industry, Entrepreneurial Development and Cooperatives Committee.
