NOTIFICATION ON THE UPDATED REQUIREMENT FOR OBTAINING THE TRAVEL AUTHORIZATION FOR EXISTING INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

  NOTIFICATION ON THE UPDATED REQUIREMENT FOR OBTAINING THE TRAVEL AUTHORIZATION FOR EXISTING INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

1. PURPOSE

1.1 The purpose of this bulletin is to provide updates regarding the requirement of obtaining a Travel Authorization for International Students to enter Malaysia.

 

1.2 The bulletin is a follow up from the previous bulletin sent by EMGS on 18th January 2021 (Update #12 – Standard Operating Procedures During and After Covid-19 Pandemic Movement Control Order) which states the following:

1.2.1 New International Students – Travel Authorization will be auto-generated and made available for download through EMGS Website once the eVAL is approved.

1.2.2 Existing International Students – To apply and submit the Travel Authorization to EMGS for approval. Once it is approved, Travel Authorization will be made available for download through EMGS Website.

 

1.3 The Immigration Department of Malaysia has issued a press statement on 28th October 2021 to exempt International Students with a valid student pass to enter Malaysia without applying for a Travel Authorization via EMGS.     

 

2. IMPLEMENTATION

2.1 Effective from 1st November 2021, the Immigration Department of Malaysia will allow International Students with the valid student pass to enter Malaysia without applying for the Travel Authorization via EMGS. Kindly note that the student pass must be valid at the point of entry into Malaysia.

 

2.2 Students whose pass expired from February 2020 are still allowed to enter Malaysia however they must apply and obtain a Travel Authorisation via EMGS.

 

2.3 There are no changes to the process for New International Students to enter Malaysia. They are still required to obtain the Travel Authorisation via EMGS prior to entering Malaysia. The Travel Authorization will be auto generated and made available for download through EMGS Website once the eVAL is approved.

 

2.4 The validity of the Travel Authorization for New and Existing students remains unchanged.

 

2.5 Please note that the entrance procedures upon arrival in Malaysia is still subject to the existing Malaysian Immigration Department regulations that are still in force as well as the health screening and quarantine procedures by the Ministry of Health Malaysia.

Sarah Azreen Abdul Samat

Sarah has over 22 years of experience in corporate finance transactions involving equity issuance, mergers and acquisitions, fundraising, corporate restructuring, and corporate valuation, amongst others. She began her career in investment banking with Malaysian International Merchant Bankers Berhad in 2001 after obtaining her professional qualifications from PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Later in her career, she joined other investment banking institutions in Malaysia such as AmInvestment Bank Berhad, Maybank Investment Bank Berhad and RHB Investment Bank Berhad.

Presently, Sarah sits as Non-Independent Non-Executive Director of Reneuco Berhad and Independent Director of Pharmaniaga Berhad. She is currently the Executive Director of 3p Capital Advisers Sdn. Bhd., a company licensed with the Securities Commission Malaysia to provide advisory services to the capital market players.

Tuan Haji Ismail Bin Mohamed

Tuan Haji Ismail Mohamed sits on the Board of Director for Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS). He obtains his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

Prior to sitting on the EMGS Board, he was also appointed to be the Board of Director to KEJORA from 2013 to 2018, and several companies such as Permodalan Darul Takzim Sdn Bhd, Perbadanan Usahawan Johor Sdn Bhd, PIJ Holding and Ranhil SAJ Sdn Bhd. Tuan Haji Ismail Mohamed also co-founded Pertama.

He started his career by setting up a company and being the founder of JYBB Enterprise. His career came to prominence when he became the co-founder and the Chief Executive Officer of Pertama Polyerethane Technology (M) Sdn Bhd and subsequently became the Special Officer to the Minister of Education in 2013.

Ismail Mohamed is acknowledged for his expertise in Agriculture and Agro-based industry, landing him being appointed as the Chairman of the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Committee of the Johor State, the Chairman of Agro KEJORA and the Chairman of the Johor State Agriculture, Agro-based industry, Entrepreneurial Development and Cooperatives Committee.
