SPECIAL PASS REQUIREMENTS BY THE MALAYSIAN IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENT 

 

1. PURPOSE

1.1 The Malaysian Immigration Department was previously accepting all New, Renewal and Dependant passports for endorsement if the current pass has expired from 1st February 2020 onwards. Education Institutions were also able to submit eVAL applications for applicants in Malaysia without a valid current pass.

 

1.2 EMGS would like to provide an update on the latest directive received from the Malaysian Immigration Department regarding the requirement for International Students and their Dependants to apply for a special pass if their previous pass has expired.

 

2. IMPLEMENTATION

2.1 Beginning 6th January 2022, the directive from the Malaysian Immigration Department will impact the following services:

  • eVAL Applications – All eVAL applications submitted by applicants in Malaysia must be submitted with a valid pass before the application is submitted to the Malaysian Immigration Department for their approval.
  • Passports – All passports submitted to EMGS must be submitted with a valid current pass of at least 5 working days from the date of expiry.
  • eSupporting Letter – All eSupporting Letter request for self-endorsement applications must be submitted with a valid current pass of at least 5 working days from the date of expiry.

 

2.2 EMGS would also like to inform all Education Institutions that the Malaysian Immigration Department will continue issuing a special pass without enforcement action for students and their dependants that have overstayed until 31st January 2022.

 

2.3 From 1st February 2022, International Students and their dependants who commit overstay offences may be subjected to enforcement action by the Malaysian Immigration Department.
