MEDIA STATEMENT FROM THE MALAYSIAN IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENT REGARDING THE NON-ADHERENCE TO COVID-19 SOPs BY FOREIGN CITIZENS IN MALAYSIA

 


1. PURPOSE

1.1 The purpose of this bulletin is to provide information on a recent media statement issued by the Malaysian Immigration Department regarding foreign citizens (including international students) disregarding the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the prevention of COVID-19 in Malaysia.

 

1.2 The media statement dated 18th November 2021 states that there has been an increase in the incidents of foreign citizens intentionally flouting the SOPs and some have even challenged the authorities in taking action against them.

 

1.3 The Malaysian Immigration Department has stated that they will not hesitate to cancel the Long-Term Pass (inclusive of a student pass) and revoke any immigration facilities accorded to these individuals. These foreign citizens may also be deported to their country of origin and blacklisted from entering Malaysia as stated in the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Seksyen 8 and 9).

 

1.4  Malaysians who are the sponsors/employers of foreign citizens are also reminded to be more diligent and responsible in ensuring that they abide by the rules and laws of the country.
