When I applied for the EMGS FAM Trip, I carried a handful of ideas about Malaysia: beautiful islands, diverse cultures, and a rich blend of traditions. But none of these impressions prepared me for what I would feel once I arrived. Malaysia didn't just welcome me, it embraced me. The hospitality began the second we landed. The EMGS team greeted us with genuine warmth, guided us through every step, and stayed by our side throughout the entire programme. One of our first encounters with locals happened after visiting MSU University. We stopped at a nearby mall and found a Japanese bakery. As we chose our pastries, the woman in front of us quietly paid for all of them. She didn't wait for recognition she simply walked away with modest grace. When we thanked her, she welcomed us to Malaysia with a smile. A small act, yet it captured everything this country stands for.



One of the most memorable days was in Terengganu, where we went hiking with the wonderful team from UniSZA (Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin). We also had the chance to try our hand at Batik painting one of Terengganu's cherished traditional crafts, of carefully applying wax and colour to fabric in a process that felt meditative and deeply personal. What impressed me most were the professors who shared their knowledge with genuine passion, and the students full of curiosity and ambition who spoke proudly about their studies and goals. Surrounded by nature, art, and guided by educators who truly care, those days felt grounding, inspiring, and unforgettable.



Another highlight was cooking Malaysia's national dish, Nasi Lemak, guided by experienced chefs like Chef Zam Zam. We learned the history, the cultural influences, and the delicate balance of flavours. Then came the dessert: Ondeh-Ondeh a mochi-like sweet made from soft dough with a gula melaka sugar core, rolled in fresh coconut flakes. Preparing it together was fun aswell as delicate. A heartfelt thank you to the chefs who shared their craft with us.



A Country Where Cultures Embrace Each Other
Malaysia is the only place I've seen where cultures don't clash; they hug. Malay, Chinese, Indian, and countless other influences blend into one peaceful identity. Even night-market vendors radiate calmness and kindness. This trip was more than an educational journey. It was a lesson in humanity, hospitality, and cultural harmony. Malaysia didn't just impress me it changed me.
