My recent FAM Trip to Malaysia was an unforgettable journey filled with cultural discovery, meaningful connections, and inspiring academic experiences. The trip was part of an Edutourism program organised by EMGS, designed to introduce us to Malaysia’s diverse education system and its universities. From the very beginning, I was struck by how beautiful the country is and how incredibly welcoming the people are. Hospitality truly plays a central role in Malaysian culture, and this was reflected in every interaction we had.

During the trip, we visited MSU Shah Alam University, where we received a comprehensive campus tour and participated in a variety of activities both on and off campus. It was a great opportunity to explore student life and academic offerings. We also traveled to UNISZA in Terengganu, where we experienced both academic and cultural programs. One unique opportunity offered to us was the chance to enroll in a one-credit online course, highlighting the openness of Malaysian universities to international collaboration.

What made this trip especially memorable was the group dynamic. Despite coming from different universities and academic backgrounds, we quickly formed a strong sense of community. Whether someone was interested in medicine, languages, or other fields, everyone felt supported and included. We were not just a group of visitors, but rather a group of individuals connected by shared curiosity and openness. Both the German and Malaysian participants contributed to a positive and welcoming atmosphere.

Another highlight was the flexibility and enthusiasm of the organizers. The teams from EMGS, MSU, and UNISZA went above and beyond to show us not only the official program but also spontaneous, off-program experiences. They were always open to questions and eager to share more about their country. We were introduced to Malay dances, traditional snacks, and different aspects of local culture, which made the experience even more enriching.

Personally, this trip broadened my perspective on education and life. I learned that educational systems can differ greatly while still being highly effective. It inspired me to be more open-minded, more confident in my choices, and to think beyond conventional paths. There is truly a whole world to explore.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the EMGS team for their dedication and support throughout the trip, as well as to the universities for their hospitality and for welcoming us into their campuses and accommodations. I would also like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Johari, whose connection and efforts helped make this entire experience possible. This journey has left me with lasting memories and meaningful connections that I will cherish for a long time.
