From the very moment we landed, the EMGS Team welcomed us with open arms, as if we were old friends returning home. The warmth and genuine hospitality we received from the EMGS Team, MSU and UniSZA touched me in a way I didn’t expect. Their kindness, their patience, and the passion with which they shared the beauty of Malaysian culture made this journey unforgettable. Even when we’re thousands of kilometers away from home, they created a space where we felt safe, seen, and truly cared for.

When I think of Malaysia now, I think of long, meaningful conversations, shared meals that brought us closer, warm evenings, iced milk tea in my hand, breathtaking landscapes, peaceful mosques, quiet forest paths, and food that felt like a hug.

The program was filled with moments that opened our hearts and minds. Every activity from the private cooking class where we explored Malay cuisine, to learning traditional dances, to wandering through Kuala Lumpur’s vibrant streets, to the calm forest walks, they were all crafted with so much love and intention. It allowed us to dive deeply into the colourful, warm, and soulful culture of Malaysia.

What moved me most was the intercultural dialogue and the chance to see how Muslims live and practice Islam on the other side of the world. Seeing different ethnicities, religions, and cultures coexist so harmoniously was incredibly inspiring. Sometimes it felt like stepping into a completely different world simply by crossing into another neighbourhood.

This trip gave me a profound understanding of what it means to be Muslim in a different part of the world; the joys, the challenges, the everyday realities. Compared to life in a Western society like Germany, I realized how differently opportunities and struggles can shape us. And yet, despite all these differences, one truth remained, we are all connected as brothers and sisters.
Returning to Germany, I carry with me a heart full of unforgettable memories, new friendships, new perspectives, and a deep love for Malay cuisine.
