I am Farha Fatima Yar Khan, a postgraduate student from Hyderabad, India, currently pursuing Master of Education in Early Childhood Education (ECE) at Sunway University. In the wake of charting the best educational paths for my children, my own journey toward academic growth unexpectedly began. We were exploring fairs and expos for an amalgam of modern, practical-based education, integrated with industry exposure, self -reliant learning with approachable friendly educators, valuing individual student personalities. Seeking a safe haven to broaden their perspectives and horizons, we aimed to provide our children with diverse exposure as they explored the unknown. By sheer luck, we encountered the EMGS team in the expo, led by Mr. Novie Tajuddin, and they briefed us on opportunities and foundation programmes at renowned Malaysian universities.
Learning about the guardian visa changed everything; we decided to enrol my high school daughter alongside my son, with me accompanying them. This transition was supported by Mr. Novie’s warm hospitality and an invitation to the EMGS office. There, we witnessed a team dedicated to helping international students pursue their dreams while fostering their independence. Time has been fleeting. Within months, I noticed a remarkable transformation in my children. They have matured so rapidly that roles are reversing—now, as a mother, I often seek their advice.
As my children immersed themselves in studies, we collectively decided I should pursue my long-held passion, which had rested during my initial motherhood years. Nothing replaces a mother’s warmth or those irreplaceable child’s moments reaching milestones, which should be lived together, nurturing eternal bonds. These cherished memories I’ll behold as my children fly the nest into their new lives. With immense motivation from my husband, children, brothers, and the lessons of my parents, I finally began my personal growth. Driven by a desire to reshape early education, I chose to restart my journey within the often-undermined field of ECE. I aim to transform education from a passive knowledge-impartment model into an active, self-acquisition process. My goal is to protect the “inborn curiosity," replacing rigid teaching formats with an intrigue-driven environment where young learners naturally soak up knowledge. Sharing this journey feels serendipitous; a full-circle, wherein my teenagers bridge the generational gap, enhancing my knowledge through tech-related tasks and friendly banter.
Without EMGS's guidance, this wouldn't have been possible. Though taxing for a first-timer, their single-window approach made everything easier. The team’s exceptional leadership and unwavering support made this transition truly seamless. Eventually, reclaiming my Master’s studies, engaging lectures and campus life transform my wintered dream into a lived reality. It is a profound return to the enthusiastic learner I have always been; a testament to the fact that lifelong learning knows no expiration. Each opportunity validates my purpose, and I thank the Almighty for this second innings that has shown me how a woman in multiple roles is an invaluable asset. As I unleash my waiting spark, I believe my chapter of motherhood enacted as a ‘guiding star’ illuminating the academic path I had long left in the dark.
