Choosing to study at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Kuala Lumpur was a decision driven by my passion for resilient architecture, but living in the heart of the city has given me so much more than a degree. As a Foundation in Physical Science student, my life is a perfect blend of academic focus and the incredible, high-energy vibe that only Kuala Lumpur can offer.

Student life in KL is surprisingly seamless, especially regarding affordability. On a student budget, I can enjoy world-class facilities and delicious meals without stress. Whether it’s a quick Nasi Lemak between Physics lectures or exploring the street food at Kampung Baru just minutes away, the cost of living allows me to maintain my 4.0 GPA goals while still enjoying the city.

The KL campus puts me in the centre of a "cultural melting pot." During major festivals like Chinese New Year or Hari Raya, the city transforms with decorations and events that make me feel part of something global. I’ve made friends from across the world, and we spend our free time visiting the Petronas Twin Towers or exploring the historic sites of the city. These aren't just "breaks" from studying; they are lessons in culture and modern design that I couldn't get from a textbook.

One of my favourite parts of being an international student here is the ease of travel. With my student pass, I can navigate the city effortlessly using the LRT or Grab. Being in the capital means I am at the transit hub of the country, making it so easy to hop on a bus for a weekend trip to the Genting Highlands or Batu Caves.

For anyone worried about moving abroad: don't be. The local community is incredibly welcoming, and the balance between modern city life and traditional culture is inspiring. At UTMKL, I’m not just a student in a lab; I’m a future architect building a life in a city that feels like home.
