Beyond The Classroom: My Edutourism Experience - Evîn

This two-week program was one of the most exciting things I have done in my entire life. Before the trip I was nervous, since I had never been to Asia before. I was also worried about the fact that I didn't know the people there. However, I never felt alone and always felt supported. In this program we never felt lonely, bored, hungry or scared. We were always taken care of and whenever we experienced difficulties, help was there.

The programme was filled with experiences that not only educated me but also filled my soul with life and love. I not only learned about and enjoyed Malaysian food, but also its diversity and the influence of various cultures on its cuisine, which is a testimony of Malaysia's rich transcultural history.

It was amazing to see this influence of various cultures and religions on the country, the mosques were the most beautiful I have ever seen. Wherever we went, we could find mosques to pray in. Listening to the Adhaan and quranic recitations and immersing into the amazing architecture were truly touching experiences and I'm endlessly grateful that the programme led us there.

The trip also educated me on Buddhism and I loved visiting a buddhist temple in Terrenganu. Visiting Museums in both KL and Terrenganu also enrichened our cultural experience. Furthermore, it touched me to connect with so many different people who were so welcoming, helpful and kind and who were ready to educate me even more about the country and its history. Adventure and sightseeing was also a big factor in this trip, which added life, fun and variety into the program. We not only went to the KLCC twintowers, the highest twintowers in the world, but also to Kapas Island on a boat where we went swimming on the beach, fed fish and went snorkelling.

We were not deprived of Malaysia's stunning nature as we went to visit rainforests in both Kuala Lumpur and Terrenganu. Birdwatching and lectures by Professors educated us on the importance of bird life in Malaysia and motivated me to further my education and engagement into the topic.

We truly were able to get an insight into Malaysia's diversity in options and beauty. The trip was a mixture of culture, religion, architecture, adventure, education and nature. It was truly one of the most beautiful experiences in my life and something I will never regret or forget.
