I never would have thought that a short time span of 2 weeks could change my life, but that is exactly what happened to me during the FAM trip in Malaysia. When I got the message that my application to the trip was accepted, I was utterly excited. It had been my dream to travel to Malaysia for the past 3 years, ever since I met the sweetest Malay girls during my Umrah in Saudi Arabia. Their warmth and hospitality left a lasting impression on me, and I wanted to learn more about their culture.

So, when I arrived at the KL Airport and our group of German students was warmly welcomed by the team of EMGS, I immediately knew, that I wouldn’t be disappointed by the trip. Thanks to the well-planned itinerary, I had the chance to experience a beautiful time in Malaysia, discovering both its nature and traditional culture, along with the kindness of the people. Every day I experienced yet another amazing conversation with locals and I am grateful that I made valuable friends along my way.

We spent the first few days at the Management and Science University (MSU) in Shah Alam, Kuala Lumpur. Besides learning about the different study opportunities at MSU, I participated in a traditional dancing workshop, attended a culinary class, learned about traditional games, among other exciting activities. My personal highlight was definitely the hike at the Taman Tugu Hike Trails, where we joined the hiking club of the university, which was full of the nicest people.

Next, in Terengganu, we stayed at UniSZA. Our group was accompanied by student-buddies and the student council. Spending time with local students gave me an insight into their university life, which was very different from Germany’s. Terengganu’s nature was breathtaking with the stunning Kapas Island and an unforgettable snorkeling experience. We also had the opportunity to visit the Balai Cerap KUSZA (UniSZA Observatory), where we could even observe Jupiter and its biggest moons through the telescope! The staff at the Observatory was super helpful, answering all my questions about the night sky and the apertures at the observatory. Meeting members of the astronomy club of UniSZA was another highlight of the trip.

Overall, I had a wonderful time in Malaysia which truly changed my life forever and left a lasting impression on me.
