EDUCATION MALAYSIA GLOBAL SERVICES (EMGS) CONCERNS ON INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS RETURNING TO MALAYSIA

Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) is supportive of the media statement by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) on 27th of May 2020 with regards to the management of academic activities in all Higher Education Institute (HEIs) campuses during & post-MCO (Movement Control Order). EMGS optimist that all actions and consequences had been carefully considered to safeguard our students and Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) as a whole.

This gradual process of returning students from the five (5) categories outlined by the Ministry will allow the institutions in re-strategizing with the new norms. The operations of institutions are allowed systematically would heave a sigh for public universities and private Higher Education Institutes besides convincing the investors and stakeholders. EMGS hope that Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) will take precautionary steps and follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) given by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and MOHE.

The students should be open in adapting to the new norms. EMGS acknowledges initiatives by Institutions to continue with online learning (e-learning). However, EMGS realised there are restrictions of internet access among students. Thus, institutions must take necessary action to ensure students will not be left behind in learning. Besides, the welfare and the rights of the students will not be neglected.

Therefore, EMGS believes that attention must also be given to the international students returning to Malaysia to continue with their studies. International students that fall under the five (5) categories as outlined by the Higher Education Institutes (HEI) can return to their campus. As we know, Australia and New Zealand are among the countries that have their borders reopen for international students to return to the campus. In this regard, EMGS is ready to cooperate with the HEIs, MOH and the Immigration Department of Malaysia to develop a stringent SOP to ensure the international students are safe to return to Malaysia.
