How Malaysia Became My Home Away from Home

My name is Azizullah Hanif, and I would like to share my experience as a student in Malaysia. I am currently in my third semester, pursuing a Master of Engineering and Science at the University of Malaya. Studying here has been an incredible journey, and I hope my story inspires you to consider Malaysia as your study destination.

When I first arrived, I felt a little lost and unsure about where to go or how to handle the necessary documentation. Just then, I noticed the EMGS banner, and their representatives greeted me with warm smiles. Even though it was late at night, their presence made me feel right at home. In that moment, I realised I was not alone. That kind welcome set a positive tone for my entire journey.

From the beginning, I felt embraced by the wonderful diversity of this country. Malaysia is a melting pot of cultures including Malay, Chinese, Indian, and many others. The people here are genuinely friendly and welcoming, making it easy for newcomers like me to feel at home. The country is also known for its many joyful festivals that bring communities together in celebration of rich traditions and cultural heritage.

One of my most memorable experiences was celebrating Hari Raya, a festival that marks the end of Ramadan. On this special day, everyone dresses in beautiful traditional attire, and I was proud to wear my Baju Melayu. The atmosphere was filled with joy and excitement as families and friends gathered to share delicious food and sweets. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with others and participate in the festivities. The spirit of kindness and unity during Hari Raya truly showcases the best of Malaysian culture.

During the semester break, I had the opportunity to explore Malacca City, and it was a fantastic experience. Along with nine friends from different countries, we set out to learn more about Malaysia’s rich heritage and diversity. As we wandered through the historic streets, we discovered the fascinating history that shaped the city, from its colonial past to its vibrant cultural identity. This experience deepened our appreciation for Malaysia and highlighted the beauty of its multicultural society.

One of the highlights of living in Malaysia is the food. The flavours are extraordinary and truly unique. One of my personal favourites is Nasi Lemak, a delicious rice dish served with spicy sambal, peanuts, and other tasty sides. Eating in Malaysia is not just about satisfying hunger, it is a cultural experience. From lively street food stalls to cosy local restaurants, every meal is an adventure waiting to be enjoyed.

Studying in Malaysia has been one of the best decisions of my life. This country offers a remarkable environment for learning and personal growth. If you are looking for a new adventure, a warm community, and the chance to immerse yourself in a beautiful culture, Malaysia is an excellent choice. I am truly grateful for the opportunities I have had and the unforgettable memories I have created during my time here.
